Spring Break!

All three members of our little family were on Spring Break this week. We have loved every glorious moment of being together. It's the first vacation ever where we've had no 1,000+ mile trips or holiday events. It was restful, productive, and wonderful...

We started off with Ivy's Easter basket...The Easter Bunny left her some note cards, so she sat down and wrote one for Nanny...
She rode Mr. Bunny around the house while Papa loaded the car...
And then we started off on our trip to Atlanta, GA. Ivy did better than I could have ever imagined. Papa got a couple of Thomas friends to keep her company in the car...
At the hotel we took a dip in the pool to pass some time and Ivy tried out a floaty for the first time...
She also slept in the same room as us for the first time since she was 2 days old. I was nervous, but she did great sleeping in a BIG bed all by herself!

The next morning we had breakfast and then Papa's appointment. Ivy helped us get ready to go...
After our trip, Spring Break was mostly about fun and relaxation!
Our friends Los, Jayme, and Annie came over for dinner one night. The girls had fun playing on the climbing blocks and hunting Easter eggs, but the grown-ups got their biggest laugh when our "babies" took turns pushing each other in the doll stroller. That was too funny!!
Ivy also worked very hard to wear big girl panties almost all week! She had NO accidents at home, and we were SO proud of our princess...

Now, for one last picture. This was taken at the hospital the night of the infamous dresser incident last month. I just found it on Alex's cell phone the other day. The "smear" on her cheek is actually a developing bruise, and our poor little girl looks like she has Melanie Griffith lips...

The Funny Things She Says...

It's been forever since my last post. My excuses are that the delay is partly due to grad school, partly due to technical issues, and mostly due to exhaustion! :) But nonetheless, here we are now...

The first week after the last post (when I was GOING to update) Ivy climbed her dresser drawers to get big-girl-panties. Thirty pounds only got so far up the dresser before it became unbalanced. The dresser fell on Ivy...all of her. The top hit her across the mouth cutting her lip in three places. An incisor went through her top lip and punctured the bottom lip. One finger was closed in a drawer. I was home alone with her, so I threw the dresser off of her as quickly as I could. She was crying for me to help her and trying to push the dresser up, so I didn't even think of broken things, I just saw the blood. I threw some clothes on her and took her to Urgent Care where they sent us to the ER. We waited and waited, but saw no one, so we eventually left. Alex had met us there and being in the dental field, he checked her out and thought we'd be better served at home. He was right, in the end. I did take her to the doctor the following day. He checked her finger, her teeth and lips, and her cheekbone. She had quite a bruise across her cheek and her eye was blue for a day or so, and he wanted to make sure her sinus cavity wasn't compromised. To do that he looked in her nose with a "flashlight". A week or so later, Ivy bit her tongue for the first time. She cried so. Then she said in her most pitiful voice, "Mommy take you to the doctor? He can look in my nose with a flashlight?" I thought that was SO funny, and that brings me to the topic of this lengthy catch-up post!

As you know, Ivy is the product of a bilingual household, but it's not 50%-50%. It's more like 75%-25%. I don't know if kids mix things up all the time, or if this is because she gets things from me, and things from her ESL Papa! Here's a list of some funny things Ivy says...
  • A flyswatter is a "waterspout"
  • Tip-toe is "tip-tock"
  • The YMCA is the "YMCVS"
  • Diarrhea (which she never has, so I don't know where this came from) is "Diana".
  • A picnic is a "parking spot"
  • A palate is a "place mat"
  • When I told her that there was a baby in Momma's tummy, she promptly responded with, "There's a bunny in Ivy's tummy!" She then pulled up her shirt to show me...

So, if you caught that last part... We're having a baby! (Hence, the true exhaustion mentioned in my excuse.) After inconsistent dates and ultrasound measurements I was diagnosed with a "Threatened Miscarriage". I had to wait two l-o-n-g weeks for a second ultrasound to determine if the baby was growing. As of Thursday, I can tell you that "Baby" is definitely growing! My chance of miscarriage has now dropped to 1-3% so I feel like I share the excitement (now that we can be excited ourselves)! I am 9 weeks today (although the dates still say I should be in to week 10) with a due date of November 10th. Yep. Five days before Ivy's birthday!
