We enjoyed a Christmas this year that held more joy than I could've imagined! Last year Ivy was beginning to recognize lights and our house in particular. This year she was enraptured by Christmas everywhere. The trees, the decorations, the "boots" (stockings), and of course the lights! Glorious lights!
Christmas Eve held more meaning this year. Alex, Ivy, and I began a tradition of reading the Christmas Story of the Bible and 'Twas the night before Christmas before saying our prayers and tucking Ivy into bed together. Next year we hope to add the traditions of cooking Christmas Eve dinner together as a family and making an extra dessert to leave for Santa. Of course, Santa's visit was more fun, too, because Ivy understood that in the morning there would be a bicycle. Still, she was too precious for words when she walked into the living room, lit only by the tree and beheld the magic of Christmas Morning.
Alex had the brilliant idea of setting the video camera up on tripod the night before, so we have excellent video of Ivy opening her Christmas gifts on the first Christmas morning that actually felt like a Christmas morning with our daughter. It's odd considering this was actually her 3rd Christmas!Ivy's pink bike!
Really tearing into those gifts...
Helping Papa...
Fun with the Frosty Train...

Piano fingers?
Santa brought Ivy a Hershey's Kiss for her stocking. I don't think Santa knew it was SOLID chocolate... nevertheless, Ivy was happy!
The rest of Christmas day was spent cleaning and enjoying our Christmas gifts. Our few family members came over for an early dinner and we had a wonderful time visiting with them.

If you've never seen Ivy at blessing time, let me give you a mental picture. She pushes the plate out of the way. Completely lays her head down on the table and with her face smushed in, tries to get out her blessing. If you have seen Ivy at blessing time, you'll appreciate that a standing blessing looks much the same!
We enjoyed some hot chocolate before saying, "Good-bye" to a wonderful day.
In other news, just for posterity's sake since that's what I'm really doing this blog for anyway, Ivy has had a TERRIBLE time sleeping for the last two weeks. Since Nanny left and life returned to "normal" she's had a very difficult time falling asleep and has completely refused to nap unless she's in the car. I feel like she is preparing us for life with a newborn again. We are up and down all night. As of tonight we are taking the high (hard) road. It's bed. The End. No more singing, no more patting the back, no more fill in the blank. Note to self: you CANNOT negotiate with a two year old. You will lose every time! I'll let you know if things have improved by next week. (Please, God.)

Thursday was Ivy's Christmas Program at school. They dressed in pajamas and Ivy was just too cute in my opinion. (Shocking, I know...)

and Papa's

We explained that Ivy would, in fact, have to stay with Momma and Papa so that we could go to work and school and Ivy seemed to understand that. We took one more picture in front of the tree...

Then we celebrated the coming season with a little hot chocolate! (Ivy's first, and she LOVED it!)
